Crochet Butterfly Pattern

Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet hook 4.5 mm

<> Caron, Simply Soft (4) –100% acrylic, 288 meter per 170 grams skein or any other type of yarn. You will also need about 1 meter of white yarn to make the butterfly’s body.

Crochet butterfly size:

About 4.5*5 cm. The size depends on the yarn’s weight and size of the crochet hook.

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

htc – half triple crochet: yarn over twice, insert hook into the stitch (or in magic ring) and pull a loop, yarn over and pull the yarn through first 2 loops on the hook (now you have 3 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull the yarn through all 3 loops.

dtc – double treble crochet: yarn over 3 times, insert hook into the stitch (or in magic ring) and pull a loop, yarn over and pull the yarn through first 2 loops on the hook (now you have 4 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull the yarn through next 2 loops ( 3 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull the yarn through next 2 loops ( 2 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull the yarn through next 2 loops.

Crochet butterfly pattern for beginners:

Make a magic ring. Ch 3, 4 htc, ch3, sl st ( into magic ring) – this is first small wing, ch3, 4 htc, ch3, sl st (into magic ring) – this is second small wing, ch 4, 4 dtc, ch 4, sl st (into magic ring) – this is first big wing, ch 4, 4 dtc, ch 4, sl st (into magic ring) – this is second big wing. Make one more sl st to join big and small wings together.

Antennae:

Leave at least 4 cm tail, ch 10. Cut the yarn leaving again 4 cm tail. Wrap the chain around butterfly’s body and tie a knot. After tie a knot on each end of tail.

Optionally: decorate butterfly with beads or stones.
