Crochet the beanie:

Chain 73.

Row 1: Ch 1, starting into the 2nd ch from hook yo sl st in the next 73 chains. Turn.   

Row 2: Ch1, yo sl st blo in next 70 sts. Turn. Leave the last 3 sts unworked. 

Row 3: Ch 1, yo sl st blo in next 70 sts. Turn.

Row 4: Ch1, yo sl st blo in next 65 sts. Turn. Leave the last 8 sts unworked.

Row 5: Ch 1, yo sl st blo in next 65 sts. Turn.

Row 6: Ch1, yo sl st blo in next 59 sts. Turn. Leave the last 14 sts unworked.

Row 7: Ch 1, yo sl st blo in next 59 sts. Turn.

Row 8: Ch1, yo sl st blo in next 73 sts. Turn. 

To create a smooth join between short rows and avoid holes, yarn over, then insert the hook under the horizontal bar of the previous turning chain and into the back loop of the next stitch. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on the hook.

Fold the hat right side out.
