ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
YO – yarn over
Yo sl st – Yarn Over Slip Stitch: Yarn over and insert the hook into the next stitch. Yarn over again and pull up a loop (you now have 3 loops on the hook). Pull the first loop through the other two loops on the hook in one motion, just like a regular slip stitch.
inc – increase: Insert the hook into the BLO of the previous stitch, then immediately into the BLO of the next stitch. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook to complete the slip stitch. Note: The next sl st is worked into the same stitch as the previous sl st, creating 1 additional stitch.
dec – decrease: insert the hook into the BLO of the next st and the following st, yarn over and pull though all loops on the hook to complete sl st.
BLO – back loop only
st(s) – stitch(es)

Seaming the Hat:
Fold the hat so that the beginning chain is closest to you and the last row is further away (wrong side facing out). To seam, yo, insert the hook into the front loop of the edge nearest to you and the back loop of the edge further away. Yo and pull though all 4 loops on the hook. Continue this seaming process along the hat’s edge. Cut the yarn.
Turn the hat right side out. Using a yarn needle and a new tail, seam the top part of the hat. As you seam, pick up stitches evenly along each side. The corners will naturally form the kitty ears as the top is closed.
Weave in all ends.
