Crochet materials and tools:

Crochet hook 2 mm.

Yarn Art, Jeans (2, Fine) – 55%  cotton, 45% acrylic.  50 grams – 160 meters. 

or Coton Fair (2, Fine) – 52% cotton, 48% acrylic. 100 grams  -290 meters. Colors: white, blue, black, orange(yellow)

Beads(for ties), buttons (for decoration), fiberfill (for stuffing). Craft eye (optionally)

Snowman hight: 22 cm (8.5 in)

Bottom diameter: 9.5 cm ( 3.7 in)

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches (US):

ch – chain

SC– single crochet

SC blo – single crochet back loop only

SC2tog  – single crochet two together: insert the hook into the front loop of the first stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, then insert into the front loop of the next stitch, yarn over again, pull up a loop, and yarn over one last time to pull through all three loops on the hook. 

HDC – half double crochet

TR – treble crochet

DC – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

sp – space

Snowman bottle cover crochet pattern:

Crochet snowman’s leg (make 2):

Round 1: With white yarn, ch 8. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, SC in the next 6 chs. In the last ch, work 3 SC. Continue on the opposite side: SC in the next 5 chs, then 2 SC in the last ch. (16 sts) We will be working in a continuous spiral, so do not join with a slip stitch at the end of each round. Simply begin the next round directly into the first stitch. To make the process easier, I suggest placing a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. 

Round 2: 2 SC in 1st st, SC in next 5 sts, 2 SC in next 3 sts, SC in next 6 sts, 2 SC in last st. (21 sts)

Round 3: 2 SC in 1st st, SC in next 6 sts, 2 SC in next 6 sts, 6 SC in next st, 2 SC in next 2 sts. (30 sts)

Round 4: SC blo in each st. (30 sts)

Round 5: SC in next 28 sts, SC2tog. (29 sts)

Round 6: SC in next 9 sts, [SC2tog] – 5 times, SC in next 10 sts. (24 sts)

Round 7: [SC in next 2 sts, SC2tog] – repeat around. (18 sts)

Round 8: [SC in next st, SC2tog] –  repeat around. (12 sts)

At this point, stuff the leg with fiberfill and then continue crocheting.

Rounds 9-12: SC in each st around. (12 sts)

Round 13: [SC in next st, SC2tog] – repeat around. (8 sts)

Round 14: Fold the piece in half and crochet 4 SC evenly along the edge, picking up one stitch from the front layer and one from the back layer for each SC. This will close the opening. Cut the yarn.

Crochet snowman’s nose:

Leave a 15-20 cm tail if you plan to sew the nose, or use a hot glue gun to attach it, as I did. With orange (yellow) yarn: Ch18.

Round 1: SC in 1st ch and in each ch around. (18) Do not join. Continue crocheting in a spiral.

Round 2: [SC in next st, SC2tog] – 6 times. (12)

Rounds 3-6: SC in each st around. (12)

Round 7: [SC in next 4 sts, SC2tog] – twice. (10)

Round 8: SC in each st around. (10)

Round 9: [SC in next 3 sts, SC2tog] – twice. (8)

Round 10: SC in each st around. (8)

Round 11: [SC2tog] – four twice. Cut the yarn. Stuff the nose with fiberfill.

Crochet snowman’s mitten (make 2):

Thumb: with blue color,

Round 1: Start with a magic ring and work 6 SC into the ring. Do not join. Continue crocheting in a spiral.

Rounds 2-4: SC in each st around (6) Cut the yarn and set the thumb aside for now.

With blue color, ch 6. 

Round 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, SC in the next 4 chs. In the last ch, work 3 SC. (12) Continue on the opposite side: SC in next 3 sts, then 2 SC in the last ch. Do not join. Continue crocheting in a spiral.

Round 2: 2 SC in the 1st st, SC in next 5 sts, 2 SC in next st, SC in next 5 sts. (14)

Rounds 3-7: SC in each st around. (14)

Round 8: SC in the next 2 sts. Place the thumb and work 1 SC in each of the next 3 stitches, crocheting through both the thumb stitches and the mitten stitches where they meet. SC in the next 9 sts. (14)

Round 9: SC in the next 2 sts. Work 1 SC in each of the next 3 stitches, crocheting through both the thumb stitches and the mitten stitches where they meet (the thumb stitches closest to you). SC in the next 9 sts. (14)

Round 10: [SC in next 2 sts, SC2tog] – 3 times, SC in next 2 sts. (11)

Stuff the mitten with fiberfill  and then continue crocheting.

Round 11: [SC in next  st, SC2tog] – 3 times, SC in next 2 sts. (8)

Change the color to the white.

Stuff the arm part with fiberfill and cut the yarn.

With white color

Change to blue color (this will imitate the snowman’s bucket).

Round 45: SC in each st around. (72) Do not join. Continue crocheting in a spiral.

Round 46: SC blo in each st around. (72) 

Rounds 47-60: SC in each st around. (72) Join with sl st in the very last round.

Round 61(Eyelets for ties): ch 2(count as DC), DC in next st, ch2, skip next 2 sts, [DC in next 2 sts after, ch2, skip next 2 sts] – repeat around. Joint with sl st to top of starting ch-3.

Round 62: ch 1, SC in the same stitch as the join, then SC in each stitch around. In each ch-2 space, work 2 SC.Join with sl st to 1st SC.

Rounds 63-64: ch 1, SC in the same stitch as the join, then SC in each stitch around. Cut the yarn.

Crochet snowman’s tie (white color):

Chain 150, or until the chain measures 68 cm (26.5 in). Thread the ends through the beads and secure them with knots. Pull the tie through the eyelets.

Crochet snowman’s bucket edge (blue color):

Locate Round 46 and work SC through the front loop of each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch.

Crochet snowman’s scarf:

Ch 29 (14 cm). Locate Round 33 and start working from the left side at a point you prefer. Work SC through the front loop of each stitch around, leaving the last 3 sts unworked. Ch 31. Into the 3rd ch from the hook, work DC in each ch, then continue DC in each stitch around the bottle cover and in each ch of the starting chain. Cut the yarn.

Crochet snowman’s eyes or use craft eyes (make 2):

Black color – Start with a magic ring:

Round 1 (pupil): Ch 1, 10 SC into the magic ring. Join with sl st to 1st SC. (10 sts) Cut the yarn.

Round 2 (sclera): white color – Ch 2, 2 HDC into the same stitch as join, 2 DC in next st, 2 TR in next 3 sts,  2 DC in next  st, 2 HDC in next st, sl st in next 3 stitches. Join with sl st to 1st HDC. (17 sts) Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail in case you decide to sew. Alternatively, you can glue the eyes. 

Add a small shine effect to the eye by using white color or sparkly yarn to work a tiny stitch at the desired reflection spot.
