Crochet Newborn Baby Hat Pattern

Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet Hook 3.5 mm;

<> Capricorne, Chunky –88% acrylic, 12% wool. Use any brand and weight yarn you have.

Crochet newborn baby hat size:

Newborn/Baby: 41-42 cm

Gauge: 18 sts – 4 inches (10 cm)

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches (US):

ch – chain

SC – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

sl st blo – slip stitch back loop only

SC2tog – single crochet two together.

Crochet newborn beanie:

Leave a tail at least 15-20 cm. Ch 26. Measure the chain. Your chain must measure about 14 cm. If you crochet for a 6 months baby the length of your chain must measure 15 cm and for 12 months baby -16 cm. Add more chains if 26 are not enough.

Row 1: Ch1, sl st in next 3 ch, 16 SC in next 16 ch, sl st in next 7 ch. Turn. (26 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, sl st blo in next 7 sts, 16 SC in next 16 sts, sl st blo in next 3 sts. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sl st blo in next 3 sts, 16 SC in next 16 sts, sl st blo in next 7 sts. Turn.

Repeat Rows 2-3 until hat measures desired width.

For head circumference 41-42 cm I have crocheted 30-32 cm. Do not cut the yarn and return to the tail that you left at the beginning.

Join 2 sides together.  Using yarn needle sew to edges till the very top.

Shaping the crown of newborn baby hat:

Return to the working yarn. SC2tog around. Join with sl st. Cut the yarn leaving 15 cm tail.

Using yarn needle again pick up front loops around the top, then pull the yarn tight to close hole. Fasten off and weave in ends.
