Beginner-friendly ribbed hat crochet pattern:
Crochet body of the ribbed hat:
Leave tail at least 20-25 cm. Ch 45. Measure the chain. If you are crocheting hat with folded brim, your chain must measure about 31-32 cm. Add more chains if 45 are not enough.
Row 1: Ch1, starting in the second loop from hook make 16 SC. (This will be the height of the folded brim). *Insert the hook into the next chain and draw up a loop, yo, insert the hook into the same chain and draw up a loop, yo and pull through all four loops on your hook. Repeat from * until you have 8 chains.
The length of the last 8 unworked chains must measure 5 cm. You can have more or less unworked sts, the only condition is to have the number of stitches be divisible by 2. In my case it is 8. After that make 4 sl st. Turn. (Leave four unworked sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, 4 sl st blo, 37 sc blo. Crochet the very last stitch through both loops (front and back) each even row. We do it to make the hat’s edge less elastic and springy. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, 16 sc blo. *Insert the hook into the back loop of next stitch and draw up a loop, yo, insert the hook into the same stitch and draw up a loop, yo and pull through all four loops on your hook. Repeat from * until you have 8 stitches.
4 sl st blo, 4 sl st, turn.
Row 4: Ch1, 8 sl st blo, 37 sc blo. Do not forget to crochet the very last stitch through both loops.
Row 5: Ch1, 16 SC. *Insert the hook into the next stitch and draw up a loop, yo, insert the hook into the same stitch and draw up a loop, yo and pull through all four loops on your hook. Repeat from * until you have 8 stitches. 4 sl st blo. Turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, 4 sl st blo, 37 sc blo. Crochet the very last stitch through both loops.
Row 7: Ch 1, 16 sc blo. *Insert the hook into the back loop of next stitch and draw up a loop, yo, insert the hook into the same stitch and draw up a loop, yo and pull through all four loops on your hook. Repeat from * until you have 8 stitches.
8 sl st blo, turn.
Row 8: Ch1, 8 sl st blo, 37 sc blo. Do not forget to crochet the very last stitch through both loops.
Repeat Rows 5-8 until your hat measures desired width. Finish crocheting with row 3. For head circumference of 57 cm I have crocheted 45 cm.
Assembly of the ribbed hat:
Sew 2 sides together making the back seam of the hat. Insert the hook underneath the chain of the first row of the fabric that is closest to you and through the back loop on the other side, yarn over and pull it through both loops and stitch on the hook. Slip stitch those two edges together till the very bottom. Weave in ends.
Now take a yarn needle and thread a new tail (or the tail that you left at the beginning) to close the top. Insert the needle back and forth around the top, then pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Fasten off and weave in ends.
