Moss stitch granny square crochet pattern:
Color A
Start with a magic ring.
Round 1(RS): into magic ring: [SC, ch 2] – repeat 3 times, SC. To join, create a double crochet stitch in the first single crochet. When changing color for the next round, leave the last double crochet unfinished. With two loops remaining on your hook, introduce the new color and pull it through the last two loops.
Turn the work counterclockwise and hold the working yarn in your left hand. In my video tutorial, I demonstrate turning the work clockwise without holding the working yarn. However, turning counterclockwise while holding the yarn in your left hand may be easier.
Color B
For the first single crochet in each even round, yarn over from the left side instead of the right. I’ve noticed that the right side tends to look slightly better afterward. However, this is optional, and you can still yarn over from the right side as usual
Round 2 (WS): SC into the space created by the last joined double crochet. *Ch 1, skip next st, [SC, ch 2, SC] – in next ch-2 sp. Repeat from * 3 times. Ch 1, skip next st, SC into the initial space. To join and change color, create a double crochet stitch in the first single crochet, as described previously. When joining on the wrong side, keep the previous color yarn in front. Conversely, when joining on the right side, keep the previous color yarn in the back. Turn work clockwise holding the yarn in your left hand.
