Crochet Little Red Riding Hood Pattern

Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet Hook 5 mm;

<> Red Heart, Super Saver (Medium) – 100% acrylic. 198 grams – 333 meters per skein. Quantity – 230 grams;

<> 3 buttons (20 mm);

Crochet hood size:

Head circumference: 53-60 cm

Gauge: 13 stitches = 4 inches

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches (US):

ch – chain

SC – single crochet

SC2tog – single crochet two together

sp – space

sl st – slip stitch

WS – wrong side

RS – right side

pm – place stitch marker

Little red riding hood crochet pattern:

Row 1: Ch 91, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (90).

Rows 2-4: Ch1, SC in each stitch across, turn (90).

Rows 5 (button hole): Ch1, SC in next 84 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, SC in next 4 sts, turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, SC in next 4 sts, 2 SC in ch-2 sp, SC in each stitch till the end.

Rows 7-11: Ch1, SC in each stitch across, turn (90).

Row 12 (button hole): Ch 1, SC in next 4 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, SC in each stitch till the end.

Row 13: Ch 1, SC in next 84 sts, 2 SC in ch-2 space, SC in next 4 sts.

Rows 14-18: Ch 1, SC in each stitch across, turn (90).

Rows 19 (button hole): Ch1, SC in next 84 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, SC in next 4 sts, turn.

Row 20: Ch 1, SC in next 4 sts, 2 SC in ch-2 sp, SC in each stitch till the end.

Rows 21-24: Ch 1, SC in each stitch across, turn (90).

Count 9 sts from the left side and pm, after that repeat on the right side. Please do not remove this stitch marker after.

Row 25: Sl st in next 10 sts, ch 2, SC in next 71 sts or till the stitch marker.

Row 26: Ch 1, SC in next 72 sts (count ch 2 from the previous row as 1 SC and make the last SC in Row 26 in ch-2 sp.) Turn.

Row 27: Ch 1, SC in next 72 sts. Turn.

Continue repeating Row 27 until the height of the hood reaches 44 cm.

To join the top part of the hood we will make a seam on the RS. Fold the hood in half, ch 1, insert the hook through both loops of the stitches on each side, yarn over pull through both loops, yarn over again, and  pull through the two loops on the hook.

Repeat this process across the top of the hood to join the seam. Cut the yarn.

• • Now we will work around the face opening. Take the yarn and join it into the 9th stitch to crochet after on the RS. SC in each row around the opening. Stop one stitch before the stitch with the stitch marker and make SC2tog (the stitch before stitch marker and stitch with stitch marker). SC in the next stitch. Remove the stitch marker and place it back in the next stitch. Turn.
  • *No ch 1. Start working into the 2nd stitch from the hook. SC in each st around the opening. As on the other side, stop one stitch before the stitch with the stitch marker and make SC2tog. SC in the next stitch. Remove the stitch marker and place it back in the next stitch. Turn. Repeat the process from * 6 more times. At the end make a sl st and cut the yarn.

Sew 3 buttons on the opposite side, aligned with the buttonholes.
