Crochet Rigid Circle Pattern for Baskets & Bags

Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet hook 3.5 mm 

<> Caron, Simply Soft (4) worsted weight yarn – 100% acrylic.

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches (US):

ch – chain

SC – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

sl st blo – slip stitch back loop only

st – stitch

st(s) – stich(es)

Crochet rigid circle pattern:

Start with a magic ring:

Round 1: 6 SC into the magic ring. Close round with sl st in the 1st SC. (6 sts)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 SC into the same stitch as join, 2 SC in each stitch around. Join with sl st to the 1st SC through the back loop. Place stitch marker into the front loop, after that place another color stitch marker in the stitch formed by the join and count it as the 1st stitch from the next round.(12 sts)

Round 3: sl st blo in next 11 sts. Ch 1 and pull tight the working yarn.

Round 4: In Round 4, work through the front loops of Round 2 by inserting your hook underneath the front loop, working through the entire fabric as usual.The stitches of Round 4 will cover the stitches from Round 3, making the fabric more rigid. SC in next 1 st, 2 SC in next stitch, [ SC in next st, 2 SC in next st] – repeat around. Join with sl st to the 1st SC through the back loop. Place stitch marker into the front loop, after that place another color stitch marker in the stitch formed by the join and count it as the 1st stitch from the next round.(18 sts)

Round 5: sl st blo in next 17 sts. Ch 1 and pull tight the working yarn.

Round 6: In Round 6, work through the front loops of Round 4 by inserting your hook underneath the front loop, working through the entire fabric as usual. 2 SC in 1st stitch, SC in next 2 sts,  [2 SC in next st, SC in next 2 sts] – repeat around. Join with sl st to the 1st SC through the back loop. (24 sts)

Round 7: sl st blo in next 23 sts. Ch 1 and pull tight the working yarn.

Round 8: In Round 8, work through the front loops of Round 6 by inserting your hook underneath the front loop, working through the entire fabric as usual. [SC in next 3 sts, 2 SC in next st] – repeat around.  Join with sl st to the 1st SC through the back loop. (30 sts)

Continue working in the same manner, making sure to increase according to the rules for the crochet circle.
