Two-Color Crochet Toddler Beanie Pattern

Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet Hook 4.5 mm main part; 3.75 mm for the crown (for decreases)

<> Gazzal, Baby wool XL 40% Lana Merino, 20% Cashmere Pa, 40% acrylic. 50 grams -100 m per skein;

<> Yarn needle.

Crochet toddler beanie size:

Toddler: 52 cm. This hat can be done for any size.

Gauge: 20 sts – 4 inches (10 cm)

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc –half double crochet

hdc blo –half double crochet back loop only

sl st – slip stitch

sl st blo – slip stitch back loop only

st – stitch

WS – wrong side

Sl st blo 2 – insert the hook into the back loop, after that insert the hook into the back loop of the stitch after, yarn over and pull though all 3 loops on you hook.

Hdc blo 2 – yarn over, insert the hook into the back loop, after that insert the hook into the back loop of the stitch after, yarn over, pull though 2 loops, yarn over and pull through 3 loops.

Brim of the toddler beanie

This crochet ribbing is worked flat. Chain 12.

Row 1: sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, *hdc in next ch, sl st in next ch, repeat from * across. (11)

Row 2: ch 1, sl st blo in the 1^st st, *hdc blo in next st, sl st blo in the next st, repeat from * across. (11)

Repeat Row 2 until brim riches 48 cm for an adult size or 43 cm for a toddler.

Join the last and the first row by slip stitching them together. When you fold the ribbing, insert the hook in the back loop of the first stitch of piece that is nearest to you and into the first loop of the other side and do a slip stitch. Do that every stitch to join the brim. Turn the brim right side out. Cut the yarn.

Change the yarn color. Attach the tail.

Round 1: Ch 1, [sl st, hdc] evenly around. Crochet one stitch on each side of row. Finish round with sl st. after that join with sl st. Turn.

Round 2 (WS): Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round. [sl st blo, hdc blo] – repeat till the end. Crochet one stitch on each side of row. Finish round with sl st blo. After that join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Round 3: Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round. [sl st blo, hdc blo] – repeat till the end. Crochet one stitch on each side of row. Finish round with sl st blo. After that join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Round 4 (WS): Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round. [sl st blo, hdc blo] – repeat till the end. Crochet one stitch on each side of row. Finish round with sl st blo. After that join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 until the hat reaches 19 cm for an adult size, 18 cm for the toddler size. Finish crocheting on the wrong side.

Switch to smaller size hook and crochet 3 more rounds.

Shaping crown of the toddler beanie

Round 1: Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round.  [Sl st blo 2, hdc blo 2] – repeat till the end. Join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Round 2 (WS): Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round.  [Sl st blo 2, hdc blo 2] – repeat till the end. Join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Round 3: Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round.  [Sl st blo 2, hdc blo 2] – repeat till the end. Join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Round 4: Ch1, hdc into the same stitch where we joined the previous round.  [hdc blo 2] – repeat till the end. Join with sl st through the front loop. Turn.

Cut the yarn leaving 10 cm tail. If you still have tiny hole, sew it with few overhand stitches. Weave in ends.
