<> Lion Brand, Color Made Easy (Bulky) – 100% acrylic. Total 110 grams;
<> Yarn needle.
Crochet vintage beanie size:
Adult: 54-57 cm
Hat’s height – 22.5 cm
Gauge: 16 sts – 4 inches (10 cm)
Common abbreviations of crochet stitches:
ch – chain
hdc blo – half double crochet back loop only
hdc – half double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sl st blo – slip stitch back loop only
st(s) – stitch(es)
Body of the vintage crochet beanie:
Ch 36 or any other number divisible by 3. Measure the chain. Your chain must measure about 23 cm.
Row 1: sl st in second ch from hook and in next 2 ch, *hdc in next 3 ch, sl st in next 3 ch – repeat from * 4 times, sl st in next 4 ch. Turn. Do not crochet last 4 chains.
Row 2: Ch 1, sl st blo in each st across. Turn.
Row 3: Ch1, hdc blo in the first 3 sts, * sl st blo in next 3 sts, hdc blo in the first 3 sts – repeat from * 4 times, sl st blo in next 4 sts, sl st in next 4 ch. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sl st blo in each st across. Turn.
Row 5: sl st blo in next 3 sts, *hdc blo in next 3 sts, sl st blo in next 3 sts – repeat from * 4 times, sl st blo in next 4 sts. Turn. Do not crochet last 4 sts.
Row 6: Ch 1, sl st blo in each st across. Turn.
Row 7: Ch1, hdc blo in the first 3 sts, * sl st blo in next 3 sts, hdc blo in the first 3 sts – repeat from * 4 times, sl st blo in next 8 sts. Turn.
Row 8: Ch 1, sl st blo in each st across. Turn.
Repeat Rows 5-8 until hat measures desired width.
For head circumference 56-57 cm I have crocheted 43 cm.
Sew 2 sides together making back seam of the hat. Turn the hat wrong side out. Insert the hook underneath the chain of the first row and thought the back loop of the last row, yarn over and pull thorough all loops and stitch on the hook.
Slip stitch those two edges together till the very top. Cut the yarn leaving 15 cm tail. Using yarn needle, insert it back and forth around the top, then pull the yarn tight to close hole. Fasten off and weave in ends.
