Unisex trapper hat crochet pattern:
Crochet body of a trapper hat:
Ch 25 +1 extra. Keep your tension loose while chaining
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, HDC in the next 17 sts, SC in next st, sl st in next st. Leave the last 6 sts unworked, then turn.
Row 2: ch 1, SC blo in next st, HDC blo in next 18 sts. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, HDC blo in next 19 sts, SC blo in next st, sl st blo in next st. Leave the last 4 sts unworked, then turn.
Optionally: To make a smoother transition from the last HDC to the next SC, insert the hook into the ch-1 space of the previous row, then into the next stitch. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over again, and pull through the final 2 loops on the hook.
Row 4: ch 1, SC blo in next st, HDC blo in next 20 sts.
Do not turn, as we’re starting the increases for the first ear flap. Add a total of 19 HDC using the following method: Yarn over, insert the hook into the last stitch, and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull through only 1 loop, yarn over again, and pull through all 3 loops on the hook. This creates 1 additional HDC.
*Yarn over, insert the hook into the bottom loop of the newly added HDC (this loop forms when you draw through just 1 loop), yarn over, pull through only 1 loop, yarn over again, and pull through all 3 loops on the hook. Repeat from * to add a total of 19 HDC. This method will be used for adding more stitches later. If needed, refer to the video tutorial for further clarification. Turn.

Seaming the hat:
Using the same hook, pick up each stitch along the crown. Yarn over, then pull through all loops on the hook, leaving just the last stitch. Yarn over once more and pull through the last 2 loops.
Fold the hat so that the beginning chain is closest to you and the last row is further away (wrong side facing out). To seam, insert the hook into the loop on the edge nearest to you and the back loop of the edge further away. Work SC to join. Continue this seaming process along the hat’s edge. Don’t cut the yarn yet.
Round 1 (Edging):
Work 1 SC into each row edge around the entire hat (covering the first ear flap, the visor, and the second ear flap). Join with sl st to complete the round.
Round 2 (I-cord Edging):
Turn your work, and sl st into each stitch along the edge. This turn and sl st row will create an i-cord-like finish, adding a polished look to the trapper hat.
Adding Ties:
As you reach the center of the first ear flap during Round 2, add 22 SC to form the tie (about 15 cm long). Add SC in the same way as HDC but without a yarn over. When the tie reaches 15 cm, work 2 SC into the last bottom loop, then make sl st in each loop along the opposite side of the tie. Continue working sl st along the edge until you reach the second ear flap, and repeat the tie-making process.
To finish, join with a slip stitch and sew the visor corners as desired. Weave in all ends securely.
