Crochet Christmas Santa Pattern



Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet hook 3.5 mm for the nose and pom pom and 4.5 mm for Santa’s head.

<> Bernant, Handicrafter Holidays Sparkle (4) – 100% cotton. Or any other medium worsted weight yarn. Colors: red, beige and white.

<> Plastic eyes, yarn needle

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches:

ch – chain

MR – magic ring

Beg – beginning

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

yo – yarn over

st– stitch

sl st – slip stitch

Crochet Christmas Santa Clause Pattern:

Round 1: Using beige color yarn, MR, ch2, 12 dc, join to beg st (12) Cut the yarn and weave in ends. Change to white yarn color.

Round 2: ch 2, 1 dc into the same st, 2 dc in each st, join to beg st (24)

Row 3 (beard): [ch 3, skip 1 st, sl st] – repeat 6 times. Turn

Row 4: ch 1, *[ sc, 3 dc, sc] – in ch-3 space, repeat from * 6 times. Turn.

Row 5: ch 1, sl st in st that we skipped in Row 3, [ch 3, sl st in st that we skipped in Row 3] – repeat 5 times. Turn.

Row 6: ch 1, *[ sc, 3 dc, sc] – in ch-3 space, repeat from * 5 times. Turn.

Row 7:  ch1, sl st around dc of Round 2 (beige dc), [ch 3, sl st around next dc of Round 2] repeat 4 times. Turn.

Row 8: ch 1, *[ sc, 3 dc, sc] – in ch-3 space, repeat from * 4 times. Turn.

Cut the yarn and weave in end.

Crochet Santa’s Hat:

On the right side, skip one stitch after the beard and attach a red color.

Row 1: ch 2, 3 dc into the next 3 ST, 3 hdc into the next 3 ST, 2 sc into the next 2 ST, sl st. Turn.

Row 2: ch 1, 3 sc into the next 3 ST, 2 hdc into the next 2 ST, 2 dc into the next 2 ST, hdc, sl st. Turn

Row 3: ch 1, skip first ST, 5 sc into the next 5 ST, 3 sl st, ch 5, and now we will work in back ridges: sc, 4 dc into the next 4 ridges. Cut the yarn leaving 10 cm tail. Sew the hat’s tip to Santa’s head.

Using 3.5 mm crochet hook attach white color to the hat’s tip and crochet a puff stitch that will imitate a pom pom.

Puff stitch: ch2, yo, [insert the hook into the same stitch and draw up a loop, yo] – repeat 5 times, yo and pull through all loops on your hook.

Nose (red yarn):

Round 1: MR, 6 sc, join with sl st.

Round 2: Ch 1, 6 sc, join with sl st.

Cut the yarn leaving 10 cm tail. Using yarn needle pick up front loops and pull tight to close and make nose look as little button. Sew the nose and glue eyes.
