Crochet Cat (Kitty) Face Pattern

Crochet materials and tools:

<> Crochet hook 2.5 mm 

<> Caron, Simply Soft (4) worsted weight yarn – 100% acrylic. Color A – white, Color B – beige.

<> Plastic eye, embroidery yarn.

Common abbreviations of crochet stitches (US):

ch – chain

SC – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

HDC – half double crochet

DC – double crochet

Cat (kitty) face crochet pattern:

Color A:

Round 1: Begin with the magic ring. Ch 2, work 16 HDC into the ring. Join with a sl st  to the 1st HDC. (16 sts)

Color change: When you complete the stitch, prior to the start of a new color, work the stitch until the last yarn over (or last 3 loops on your hook). On the last yarn over, pick up a new color, make yarn over and pull through all loops. Now you are ready to work with a new color. Carry color that you are not using across top of your row and work stitches around it.

Round 2: ch 2, 2 HDC in the same stitch as the join, HDC in next st, Color B: [2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next st] – twice, Color A: [2 HDC in next st, HDC in next st] – repeat three times, Color B: [2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next st] – twice. Join with a sl st  to the 1st HDC. (24 sts)

Round 3: Color B: ch 2, 2 HDC in the same stitch as the join, Color A: HDC in next st, Color B:  [2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next st] – repeat 3 times, 2 HDC in next st, Color A: [HDC in next stitch, 2 HDC in next st] – repeat 4 times, HDC in next st, Color B: [2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next st] – repeat 3 times. Join with a sl st  to the 1st HDC. (36 sts)

Round 4: Color B (continue carrying color not in use): sl st in next 4 sts, [SC, HDC] – in next st, [DC, ch 2, DC] – in next st, [HDC, SC] – in next st, sl st in next st, SC in next st, 2 SC in next st, SC in next 2 sts, 2 SC in next st, Color A: [SC in next 2 sts, 2 SC in next st] – repeat 4 times, SC in next st, Color B: SC in next st, 2 SC in next st, SC in next 2 sts, 2 SC in next st, sl st in next st,  [SC, HDC] – in next st, [DC, ch 2, DC] – in next st, [HDC, SC] – in next st, sl st in next st. Join. weave in the end.

Now that the crochet hat face is complete, you’re free to design it as you wish. I simply glued on plastic eyes and used embroidery yarn to stitch a triangular nose. Check the video tutorial for further instructions.
